In commemoration of Yom HaShoah on May 2, 2019 the JCRC was proud to co-host the event, “80 Years Later – What Does ‘Never Again’ Mean?” with the Phoenix Holocaust Association and Bureau of Jewish Education. The program brought together two excellent panelists, Sheila Polk, the Yavapai County Attorney, and Dr. Alex Alvarez, who is a Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Northern Arizona University. The distinguished Rabbi Pinchas Allouche of Congregation Beth Tefillah moderated the discussion. Over 200 people attended the event, and heard Polk discuss how Holocaust education has helped frame and shape her work in law enforcement; meanwhile, Dr. Alvarez discussed the challenges of Holocaust education amid the need to perpetuate historical memory.
