On Sunday, June 23rd, JCRC brought the Jewish community out to help the  Arizona Faith Network for an afternoon of community service. Volunteers filled hundreds of bags to be handed out to those in need of heat relief. Each heat relief bag included bottled water, snacks, first aid items, wet wipes, lotion and chapstick. Additionally each bag had information cards on heat relief assistance, cooling center locations, and free transportation information.

Extreme heat poses a severe threat to vulnerable communities in Arizona, necessitating robust support and relief efforts. Cooling centers, which provide respite to people needing safe shelter with consistent air conditioners and other cooling features, recorded more than 26,000 visits. These centers provide a welcoming space for community members and their pets during the heat season offering cooling facilities, water, healthy snacks, and access to wrap-around services with community partners, ensuring much-needed rest for those facing extreme temperatures.
